Colleen Ball helped found Wisconsin State Bar’s pro bono appeals program more than 15 years ago and still coordinates it today. She is an appellate attorney at the Wisconsin State Public Defender, where her duties include recruiting pro bono attorneys for public defender cases and running a blog that alerts lawyers to the latest appellate decisions concerning indigent defense and tracks issues in the Wisconsin and United States Supreme Courts. Colleen began her legal career as a commercial litigator at Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren S.C., where she formed the firm’s Appellate Practice Group and became a shareholder. She left to start Appellate Counsel, S.C., a solo practice focusing on commercial and public interest appeals. In 2009, she joined the Wisconsin State Public Defender. Colleen received her B.A. from Marquette University, her M.A. in Russian History from U.N.C.-Chapel Hill, and her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin.
